Cat Breeds A - Z: Balinese | ![]() |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Grooming: Easy to groom as the coat is silky and doesn't matte. Origin: During the 1930's & 1940's breeders attempted to produce longhaired, pointed cats and one of they byproducts was shorthaired, pointed cats. A number of Siamese-Persian hybrids were created with various genes that included shorthaired pointed cats carrying a longhaired pointed genes. The name Balinese was chosen by Helen Smith of Merry Mews cattery because the name Longhaired Siamese sounded unromantic and because the breeds graceful movements reminded her of dancers on the isle of Bali. The breed was accepted for championship competition by the Cat Fanciers' Federation in 1963. Breeding: When two Balinese are bred, the litter remains true to type, producing all Balinese kittens. Kittens: They are born white, with point markings developing over the first few weeks. Check out The Complete Cat Balinese Cat Viedeos
